M1 Overhaul Program RudderA318/319/320/321 Rudder overhauls include:

  • Verification of rudder repair history with operator and Airbus (communication directly with Airbus)
  • Remove cover assembly per CMM
  • Remove rudder tip assembly per CMM
  • General visual inspection per CMM
  • Verify fits & clearances per CMM
    • Remove and replace bushings exceeding in-service wear limits per CMM
    • Torque check of the roller bearing per CMM
  • Detailed visual inspection of the rudder side panels internal surfaces per AMM
  • Detailed visual inspection of the hinge fittings and actuator fittings per AMM
  • Mechanically sand finish down to pore filler
  • Perform pulse thermography per SB A320-55-1041  for indications of moisture ingress or previous repairs:
    • For previous repairs or moisture ingress, perform UT in skin thickness areas > 1.5mm,
    • For previous repairs or moisture ingress, perform ELCH in skin thickness areas < 1.5mm,
  • Perform thermographic inspection per NTM
  • Perform ELCH inspection per NTM
  • Perform ultrasonic inspection of monolithic area per NTM
  • Perform ultrasonic inspection of honeycomb area per NTM
  • Perform ultrasonic inspection of hoist points and trainling edge screws per NTM
  • Notify Airbus of findings/previous repairs (damage reporting sent directly to Airbus)
  • Composite skin repairs per Airbus Technical Disposition
  • Replace lightning protection plate per SRM (if required)
  • Replace hardware:
    • Spar foil
    • Bonding leads
    • Hoist plugs
    • Static dischargers
    • Hinge fitting protective sections (if applicable)
    • Hoist plugs
    • Bonding leads
    • Static dischargers
  • Re-assemble cover assembly per CMM
  • Re-assemble rudder tip assembly per CMM
  • Restore surface protection per SRM (surfacer, primer, and single-color topcoat)
  • Application of special paint schemes and/or decals.
  • Units supplied with Transport Canada or EASA form one (approved FAA 8130-3) indicating AD/SB compliance, M1 configuration worksheet, and M1 teardown worksheet including full damage mapping.
