Purpose
The Design Specialist will be take part in the development, design, testing and certification of new aircraft structures to support existing or new aircraft platforms. The Design Specialist will also participate to R&D projects and initiatives to develop new products or services to offer to M1’s customers.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in conceptual studies to support proposals and quotes;
- Create design concepts and engineering drawings in collaboration with the stress team;
- Manage the scope of work related to the certification, testing and safety of new structures as part of development projects
- Prepare and execute tests to certify the parts developed at M1;
- Support the airworthiness process to ensure designed components meet all customer and certification authority requirements;
- Support the development of new processes and guidelines to ensure the consistency and quality of design activities.
Ideal profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in aviation/aerospace;
- Strong knowledge of composite and sheet metal structures, preferably with in-service/repair experience;
- Experience in aerospace development programs;
- Strong knowledge of CAD tools and software (Catia, Solidworks or other);
- Experience in modeling composite structures (Catia Composite module or Fibersim)
- Ability to manage technical meetings in a customer-facing position;
- Knowledge of aircraft technical publications (AMM, SRM, CMM, IPC, etc) (an asset).
- Bilingual (French and English*)
* The position requires a very good knowledge of English, both oral and written. The position involves reading and understanding technical documents in English on a daily basis, especially from international companies, as well as regular communication with customers, suppliers and other international stakeholders.
