About the Role

The OHS technician identifies, assesses, and controls health and safety hazards and develops strategies to prevent, control, and eliminate accidents and occupational injuries in the workplace. They inspect workplaces to ensure compliance with health and safety standards set by the company and applicable regulations.

Objectives:

  • Reduce risks and prevent workplace accidents
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements in occupational health and safety
  • Strengthen the culture of prevention and employee engagement

Main responsibilities

Prevention, Risk Management, and Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and analyze risks related to different work environments in all factory departments and make recommendations;
  • Recommend preventive or corrective actions following investigations of accidents;
  • Help update the prevention program and work policies and procedures while keeping workers involved.
  • Help develop OHS programs and measures to improve quality of life at work.
  • Take part in various internal and external audits.

Regulatory Compliance and Administrative Management:

  • Maintain the incident and accident log and produce statistics;
  • Follow up on CNESST files and investigations in collaboration with our mutual insurance company;
  • Monitor changes made by the CNESST;
  • Draft OHS policies and procedures.

Employee Awareness, training, and engagement:

  • Coordinate and lead the health and safety committee;
  • Coordinate OHS training;
  • Plan and organize awareness activities;
  • Maintain worker involvement in OHS initiatives;
  • Perform all other related tasks.

Your ideal background

  • College diploma (DEC) in occupational health and safety or any other relevant field;
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar position;
  • Basic knowledge of OHS regulations (CNESST, LSST, RSST, etc.);
  • Proficiency in computer tools (Office 365);
  • Excellent communication, priority management, and teamwork skills;
  • Proactive, thorough, resourceful, and autonomous;
  • Bilingual (French and English*)

* The position requires a very good knowledge of English, both oral and written. The position involves reading and understanding technical documents in English on a daily basis, especially from international companies, as well as regular communication with customers, suppliers and other international stakeholders.
